Thank-you Chris Tyrell. I read this book when it was first released in 2008 and it was a timely look at some practical examples of ways in which artists are making their living and running their business. At art school there was no discussion about business. I remember learning about writing my artist statement and being made aware of the grant system for artists. But not about the basics of running my own business. The further I have gone in my art career I have cobbled together poor systems to cope with the actual business of doing art. A few books have helped me along the way as I recognized the great resources that are out there and this would be one of them.

Artist Survival Skills is a book for Canadian artists but many ideas can be used by artists everywhere - it's just that some info - like taxes would be more specific to artists living in Canada.

It doesn't matter if you are starting out or already showing and selling your work. This book can offer some great ideas for artists who want to manage their business professionally. Another aspect about this book that really gave me a great feeling was the generosity of the artists who shared so many of their own ideas and strategies.
