I love the cartoonish exuberance that Alejandro brings to his paintings! Even artworks that seem to explode with complex detail are consistently approachable. I like the way he combines different styles – using large, flat planes of colour in conjunction with highly detailed imagery of specific particles, such as a leaf or a face. In a number of his works from 2013, he uses a combination of acrylic and spray paint, creating an interesting contrast between hard stencil lines and more uneven brush strokes. They remind me in some ways of the bright abstracts of Noah NJ Bowman.

The most recent works available on Alejandro’s website are mainly sketches in gouache on paper. These aren’t as enveloping as his works on canvas but they are just as charming and fall into a similar playful, cartoonish vein.
