Woodworker Ken Vick creates a wide range of custom furniture, specializing in rocking chairs. The artist’s pieces have a sturdy, masculine feel to them, and emphasize the natural colors and grains of the wood.

In our previous feature of Ken’s custom, handmade furniture, we looked at some of the artist’s specialized projects, like blanket boxes, and jewelry boxes. Often because of the handmade, one-of-a-kind nature of the pieces, the furniture has a very family-oriented feel to it. Like Ken’s recent Heritage Baby Cradle, the pieces seem designed to be passed down from generation to generation. The artist frequently embraces the natural look of unfinished wood grain in his pieces, similar to the natural look of Enrique Morales’ custom furniture.
Of course, Ken also focuses on creating his custom rocking chairs. Each chair that Ken produces is one of a kind and represents over 30 years of Ken honing his craft. I look forward to seeing how Ken’s practice has evolved in recent years.
