One-Of-A-Kind Jewelry: Glass Art by Renee Hennessy
Artisan Lampwork Mint Green and Purple Bells, Mushroom Earrings
Renee Hennessy is glass artist and jewelry maker based in Illinois. In her artistic practice Renee uses a variety of techniques including painting and staining glass, as well as combining found objects and bits and scraps of metal to produce unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry.
Yellow/Orange Flower Painted Crystal Wine Glasses
I like the way the artist combines all the gloss and shine of fine jewelry with a handmade, whimsical aesthetic in her works. Whether she’s working on a bracelet, a necklace, or earrings, the artist’s appreciation for textural, tactile surfaces and bright colour combinations shines through.
I also really like Renee’s painted glass work. Painted glass offers a different aesthetic from stained glass -- though similar, the painted glass carries darker, more saturated pigments, and allows for evidence of the artist’s hand, allowing Renee to create the forms of flower petals and other floral elements by strategically dragging a brush across the smooth glass surface.
