Cross-stitching Aged Metal by Artist Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė

Photo of rusty pail with embroidery
In this body of work old metal objects get a granny-style adornment. Cross-stitching aged metal items seems to be an obsession of the artist Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė. I loves the contrast of materials in this series. I learned how to cross-stitch when I was in Brownies and I loved it. But of course I was using fabric, which is much more malleable and less awkward than a rusty metal bucket. I get a kick out of how the artist is choosing embroidery thread to best match the tones of the rust. This is a highly bad-ass application of embroidery!
