Text, Choreography and Performance by Tanya Lukin Linklater
Grain(s), documentation of live performance
Tanya Lukin Linklater is an artist who uses text, choreography and performance to address both personal and social concepts. Tanya often employs two or more of the aforementioned disciplines in a single piece, resulting in multilayered performances that are both aesthetically
pleasing and thought provoking.
Slow Scrape, site-specific installation
Tanya’s choreography in the pieces where she employ dance and movement is fluid and seems to emulate the movement of trees or water – this is affirmed when she performs outdoors as she does in her Untitled piece from 2013, and Unspoken-ness from 2012. Her recent work that was produced for her residence in North Bay, Ontario, while not performance-based, still showcases that connection to the outdoors specifically in that part of the world. Much of Tanya’s work also comes from a personal place and brings to light her own Alutiiq background and her upbringing in Alaska.
