Motorcycles and Machines: Art by Dave Wishart
Dave Wishart is an illustrator and photographer who creates detailed, photorealistic drawings of motorcycles and machines. Relying on traditional drawing media, Dave creates his images both as a personal passion and on a commissioned basis.
I really appreciate how Dave manages to convey a sense of dynamic movement in his works while still adhering to strict realism in his drawing style. To achieve this, he often approaches the subjects of his drawings from off-kilter angles or frames them slightly off center. The detail that goes into each individual drawing is enough to warrant a long, close viewing.
In our previous feature of Dave’s automotive art, we also looked a bit at the artist’s portraiture. Dave’s portfolio showcases impressive skills at rendering soft volumes like hair and facial features, alongside the sleek, metallic components of engines and motorcycle bodies. It’s nice to see how the artist’s techniques translate into both these aesthetics, given that they may seem so opposite in passing.
