Suspension and Charcoal: The Art of Seon Ghi Bahk

white art gallery with sculptures of suspended coal

This is the stunning art installation of Seon Ghi Bahk. This artist creates airy sculptures that depict columns by hanging pieces of charcoal. What I love about these works is that I keep feeling surprised by the idea of the smudgy light rocks of charcoal could form these elegant columns. The charcoal itself is in organic, natural state almost rock shaped but they still offer the precision of a column. Best of all I really appreciate that the columns seem to break apart and pieces fly out in every direction. These are simply incredible works that imply dynamic movement and really utilize the gallery space in a unique way.
