Slices of Art: California-Based Artist Loren Stump

glass sculpture cut in half with a picture inside

California-based artist Loren Stump offers up slices of glass that reveal the gorgeous works of art on the inside. I like how the image is stretches at the edges creating an abstract colour combo in comparison to the incredibly detailed figurative work revealed by the "slice". When viewed from the side the work almost takes on an expressionist landscape - I love when art transforms this way due to the materials used. The technique of revealing the art through slices through the glass is a traditional glass-art method called Murrine. I really love the look of the light through the glass, it enhances the brightness of the colour and the look of a daylight in the sky.
