Tanya’s choreography in the pieces where she employ dance and movement is fluid and seems to emulate the movement of trees or water – this is affirmed when she performs outdoors as she does in her Untitled piece from 2013, and Unspoken-ness from 2012. Her recent work that was produced for her residence in North Bay, Ontario, while not performance-based, still showcases that connection to the outdoors specifically in that part of the world. Much of Tanya’s work also comes from a personal place and brings to light her own Alutiiq background and her upbringing in Alaska.
