Installations and Interventions by El Celso

El Celso is a conceptual installation artist. Currently working in both New York and Los Angeles, the artist creates installations and interventions that are performative, sculptural, and sometimes both.

Art Shred,  performance

The artist’s most recent works are recurring installations of a piece entitled La Luz, which can be translated as The Light. In the work, stacks of plastic bottles filled with a popular Peruvian soda, bright yellow in colour, are placed in windows, door frames, and along walls inside what used to be an Inca temple in Peru. The installations are an interesting combination of ancient and starkly modern, and yet the soda bottles which might normally appear gaudy take on a gem-like quality with light reflecting through the coloured liquid and contours of clear plastic.

In El Celso’s other works, the artist has created a series of video works, as well as performances. In one performance called Art Shred, the artist and collaborators shredded works of art by several different artists.
