Our featured artist today is Karenza T. Wall. This artist specializes in creating one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable and usable textile art. Karenza unofficially calls her body of work Chindi Nation - the Hindi word "chindi" meaning "scraps of fabric". Much of her work is made from various scrap fabric repurposed into something beautiful.

Karenza makes small purses and jewelry from repurposed materials. The recycled nature of Karenza’s works means that her pieces are often composed of multiple types and colours of fabric, adding extra visual interest. I rather like Karenza’s jewelry, in which she combines techniques such as crochet, embroidery and beadwork to create unique necklaces and bracelets.

Karenza’s artistic practice also involves painting. Her paintings are of abstracted human figures, using bright blocks of colour to convey emotion and a sense of movement. Some of her figures have an almost  cubist sensibility, similar to some of our other painters such as Barry Scanlan.
