Today’s featured artist, Genevieve Desy, is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Quebec City. Genevieve’s photo-realistic drawings of animals and people are sweet and delicate.

I really enjoy the way that Genevieve uses drawing media to render the texture of soft animal fur. Whether she’s drawing a small rabbit, a family dog or wild wolves, she utilizes pencil crayons and coloured paper to achieve an individually tailored result. The amount of time and effort that the artist pours into each of her works is clearly visible, and gives the work a professional, illustrative quality.

Genevieve’s portfolio also includes a series of drawings for babies (dessins pour bébés). These images are drawn with the same attention to detail, though formally they are softer and more casual than the artist’s wildlife portraits. Each of these works uses a uniform colour scheme – Genevieve uses a single coloured pencil to create an image that blends into the coloured paper background for a soft, dreamy look.
