Latin Heritage: Art by Carmen Estrada
Painter Carmen Estrada uses her art to express both her Latin heritage and a reverence old masters such as Monet and Van Gogh. Currently living and working in Mazatlán, Mexico, Carmen has built a diverse and expressive art portfolio.
I especially enjoy looking through Carmen’s gallery of Latina art, where she showcases her original paintings. The works here are primarily figurative and feature styles and scenes influenced by Mexican culture. While the artist’s precise style ranges from abstracted, almost geometric figuration to smooth, bulbous forms, her use of vibrant color is consistent throughout the series.
The variation in the artist’s style is partly due to the fact that Carmen almost exclusively works on a commissioned basis. Each work in her online portfolio was carefully crafted to meet the specifications of a client. Following this, it’s nice to see a lot of visual examples of Carmen’s work on walls in people’s homes and offices, serving not only as a skilled, original artwork but a wonderful accent to a room.
