Dineo Seshee Bopape is a South African multimedia artist based in Johannesburg. Bopape’s art often comes in the form of heavy, earthy installations utilizing wood, soil and building materials, often in combination with electronic equipment and found objects.

Bopape’s works explore emotional and perceptual concepts, drawing parallels between objects and rituals, and between earth, soil and the body. I appreciate the artist’s tendency to fill entire rooms and gallery spaces with her works, creating art pieces that function as small interactive worlds that the viewer is momentarily a part of.

Also fascinating is the way Bopape organizes her online presence, offering images of work that are accompanied not by the usual titles and medium information, but by seemingly random notes and thoughts that simultaneously add extra confusion and a deeper level of understanding to the works.
