The artworks featured in Mary’s portfolio are dramatic and theatrical, and follow the aesthetic sensibilities of commercial art and illustration. The artist’s paintings of horses are more subdued and have a modern, somewhat ethereal quality that’s quite elegant. I like the way Mary includes two images of each work on her website – an image of the work itself, and a supplemental artist’s rendering of the work in a staged living room. It’s interesting to look at art that’s framed in this way, with such an emphasis on formal and compositional qualities, as well as the overall size and shape of the canvas.
