An abstract painting made with acrylic paint and charcoal om canvas

Abstract artist Addison Paige combines acrylic paint and charcoal in her works, creating art objects that seem simultaneously to exist in the worlds of drawing and painting. Wide ranging colors and a sense of the artist’s hand lend an exploratory mood to these works.

There’s a sense of urgency in many of Addison’s works that’s somehow rather inviting. Looking at each work, it’s easy to imagine the artist, in a fit of inspiration, quickly scrawling marks across a canvas. Each piece has a slightly different sense of energy, but the combination of different planes of colors and curling, overlapping lines, makes for a work that draws the viewer in and causes one’s eyes to travel across the entirety of the canvas.

I also enjoy the way this energy translates in Addison’s smaller paintings. These works are necessarily a little quieter, and almost function as zoomed-in details or sketches for larger canvases. Slight variation in technique, however, lends Addison’s small works a defined identity of their own.
