John Zabawa is an artist and graphic designer who currently lives and works in Los Angeles. In his practice, the artist uses warm, bright colours and pared-down shapes and planes to create designs that balance fun and focus.

Zabawa works with various clients to produce designs for CD jackets, posters, book covers, and more. There’s something very retro, almost mod about the artist’s designs. Zabawa’s use of large planes of colour, simple, sometimes abstracted shapes, and backgrounds in warm, off-white tones lends to the feeling that one is browsing through classic LP jackets from the 60s or 70s.

It’s easy to see how Zabawa’s artistic style lends itself to graphic design. Even in his solo exhibition, So Many People, the artist collaborated with Bad Press Studio to produce a beautifully risograph-printed booklet of the exhibition layout.
